Victorian Day

What an amazing day! We used chalk and slate for observational drawings, the girls did some sewing whilst the boys learned to recite ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’. We said ‘God save the Queen’ looking at Queen Victoria’s portrait. We practiced handwriting and did maths using the abacus. The Vicar came to pray with us and we did drill (Victorian PE). We read from the Bible and played a Victorian game. The children were very nervous when Mrs Daniel appeared to inspect their hands, lots were a disgrace! Most lessons were in silence and we were amazed at how well and seriously the children took part. We really loved the experience and the children seemed relieved to get back smiling happy teachers today….we were very strict! Please talk to the children about the differences between then and now and how things have changed at home since that period too.
