EmpathyLab Champion

Netley Marsh CE Infant school is one of a small group of Pioneer EmpathyLab Schools, running a trial programme until July 2016 which integrates empathy into key school development plans. Inspired by EmpathyLab, we are testing new ways to build children’s empathy through stories, and help them put empathy into action to make the world a better place.

As a school we are focusing on empathy because it is such an important skill for children to develop. Exciting neuroscience research shows that reading stories can help us be more empathetic in real life, and that because our brains are plastic, 98% of us can learn new empathy skills. We will be working with EmpathyLab to build empathy skills and inspire children be a force for good in the world.

Author visit from Miriam Moss

The children at Netley Marsh CE Infant School enjoyed a day working with author Miriam Moss. Miriam is an award-winning writer of fiction, short stories, novels and picture books. The children in all classes listened to Miriam tell one of her stories and then became authors themselves. They thought about something connected to one of Miriam’s books and set about developing their own stories. Miriam also worked with a group of parents and children after school. Here are some photos of what happened…
