Impressionist Art

May 17th, 2019

This half term, as part of our focus on changes that are occurring in the garden. We have been looking at the work of impressionist painters especially Claude Monet. This also links closely with our learning value of Spirituality. We are being like Barry Butterfly responding to something wonderful.

Monet in his garden.

We have been using powder paints and mixing the colours we need just using the primary colours and white. We have applied them just by dabbing as we are learning that we are just trying to create an impression of the plants and flowers.

We think our paintings are looking fabulous.

Some of them we have put beside original paintings or photo images so you can see where our inspiration has come from.

Special Things

May 15th, 2019

Today, as part of our RE learning we have been investigating items that are special to Jews. We looked closely at the Torah scrolls and the Yad (hand) that is used when reading the Torah. We have learnt that the Torah scrolls are so special that the text must not be touched with fingers and the silver Yad pointer is used instead. The  children suggested that if you were touch it you might make it dirty or because it is made of paper it might tear.

We have learnt that the Torah is written and read in Hebrew and contain rules that were given to Jews and that they should follow.

We had a go at making our own Torah scrolls and trying to write Hebrew letters. We also made our own Yads.

Some of the children wrote their own rules on their Torah scrolls.

The children said it s important to have a Yad, the Torah is very old and must be kept clean.

The writing is small and tricky to write, you would need to be very careful when you write theTorah.

It is so Precious; we have the Bible.

We can t read it but others can.

End of Spring term

April 5th, 2019

We finished off the term with Easter celebrations.

We shared in an Easter egg hunt having learnt that they are a symbol of new life and that for Christians they symbolise Jesus’ new life.

We also decorated a cross with collaged flowers this followed the tradition of Christians decorating a cross on Easter Sunday with real flowers, again to symbolise new life and the resurrection of Jesus.

Today was also a sad day for us as we said goodbye to Mrs Daniel are executive head teacher, however she has left us something that will remind us of her; a beautiful candle holder. We know that when we light it at the beginning of our worship time we will think of her. We wish her a happy retirement .

We wish everyone a very happy Easter and we look forward to the summer term.

Mother’s Day flower arrangements

March 29th, 2019

Today we have been learning about why we celebrate Mother’s Day or Mothering Sunday. We have heard that it was originally a celebration of Mary, Jesus’ mother and in later times girls who were in service would be allowed to go to their own ‘Mother church’ to celebrate with their families. They would often take flowers with them to give to their own mothers.

Today we have made beautiful little flower arrangements to give to our mothers, nanna’s and grandmas who care for us.

We have made a fabulous job of them and think our grown ups will love them.
